Pickering Village United Church reaches out to the community by providing space for many support groups such as: AA, Al-Anon and the Alzheimer’s Society. In addition, other groups that rent our Church facilities are: karate clubs, choirs, kids’ soccer classes, adult exercise and Pickleball. With a strong commitment to Mission, PVUC events are regularly raising awareness of and financial support for several non-church programs. NEW BEGINNINGS (INTERFAITH REFUGEE SUPPORT GROUP) Our PVUC Board meeting on October 27, 2015 gave unanimous approval for the refugee committee to proceed with sponsorship and settlement of refugees. The Benevolent Fund provides food cards to those with emergency needs. It is available to residents of Ajax and is administered by the Ministers. In some cases, emergency shelter is provided at local motels. Collections for the Benevolent Fund take place during most Communion Services. Donations are welcome at any time. Footcare is provided on most TUESDAY MORNINGS, primarily for seniors. It is operated by our two Parish Nurses. Times may be reserved by contacting the PVUC Office.The foot clinic is open for those attending PVUC and for members of the community with diabetes or financial need. Home visits in very special circumstances will be considered.
The work of The United Church of Canada across Canada and around the world is carried out through the Mission and Service (M&S) Fund. PVUC has a continuing connection with Dr. Paul Thistle and Karanda Mission Hospital. Located in Northern Zimbabwe, Karanda Hospital is a 150 bed facility treating 100,000+ patients and performing 3,500+ surgeries annually. KARANDA THANK YOU!
